IAVI Welcomes Korean Women against AIDS to India

Group’s Grant to IAVI Will Support AIDS Vaccine Research in Asia and Globally.

The International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI) announced a $50,000 grant from Korean Women against AIDS (KOWA), a newly formed advocacy organization comprised of leading members of the business and legislative communities of the Republic of Korea. KOWA awarded the grant shortly before embarking on a five-day visit in September, organized by IAVI and UNAIDS, to learn more about HIV/AIDS in India.

“We are grateful for this commitment from such an illustrious group of leaders and innovators to help advance IAVI’s mission to ensure development of an effective and accessible AIDS vaccine,” said IAVI President & CEO Margie McGlynn.

In India, the eight KOWA delegates met with senior government officials and scientists; toured the HIV Vaccine Translational Research Laboratory, a joint venture between IAVI and the Government of India; and visited NGOs that support women and children living with HIV.

“KOWA’s generosity provides a model for engagement in Asia and around the world in the fight against AIDS,” said Rajat Goyal, IAVI Country Director in India. “We were honored to help connect this delegation with Indian legislators, thought leaders, researchers and community members.”
