Country Director, India

Rajat Goyal, M.D., oversees IAVI’s strategic direction in India. In this role, he has helped establish key Indian government-led research and development initiatives and global collaborations, including the HIV Vaccine Translational Research Laboratory, as well as multilateral research partnerships facilitating North-South and South-South scientific cooperation.

Goyal has been working in the fields of cancer, HIV, vaccine research and development, and public health for more than 20 years. Previously, he was vice president at ICON, managing clinical operations for the Asia-Pacific region. Prior to that, he was global director of PATH’s Advancing Rotavirus Vaccine Development project, where he oversaw product development and a range of other health interventions. He also served as a vice president of Reliance Life Sciences’ in Mumbai.

He holds an M.D. from Haffkine Institute of Research and Training in Mumbai. He was a research fellow at Rush Cancer Institute in Chicago, and a visiting fellow at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston and the Royal Marsden Hospital in London.
