Labeeb M. Abboud provides leadership on strategy, legal affairs, business development, intellectual property and risk management, and is also interim head of IAVI’s External Relations department, consisting of advocacy, policy, communications and resource mobilization. In addition, he provides managerial oversight of IAVI’s India country program and is the board chair of the IAVI-UVRI HIV Vaccine Program in Uganda.
He serves as Chairman of the Board of the Global Health Investment Fund, a Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation-sponsored social impact investment fund that is focused on accelerating late stage development of vaccines, drugs, diagnostics and devices that could address global health challenges in developing countries. He also serves on the Expert Advisory Group of the Medicines Patent Pool, which seeks to increase access to HIV, viral Hepatitis C and tuberculosis treatments in low- and middle-income countries.
Prior to joining IAVI in 2004, he had 20 years of experience in the fields of international law and finance. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and has also served as a board member of non-profit organizations working in the fields of the environment, education and global health. He is a graduate of Wesleyan University and Georgetown University Law Center.
