Building Stronger Bridges: Bolstering the effectiveness of community advisory boards in Southern Africa

The Community Advisory Board, or CAB , not only represents the communities most affected by HIV-related clinical research but also helps to educate the public and provides guidance to researchers in such matters as protocol design. So what does a truly effective CAB look like?  This report addresses that question and describes how IAVI has helped the research centers it works with in South Africa and Zambia assemble and train their CABs.

Social Sciences and AIDS vaccine research: The South African experience

Social science research is a critical component of many of IAVI’s vaccine development partnerships.  This document describes the IAVI-supported social and behavioral studies done by the Desmond Tutu HIV Foundation and The Aurum Institute in South Africa.  It also explains how the insights gleaned from such studies are applied to refine the conduct of clinical research critical to AIDS vaccine development.
