The International AIDS Vaccine Initiative is participating in the 18th International AIDS Conference--the largest AIDS forum in the world--July 18-23 in Vienna, Austria. The AIDS 2010 theme, Rights Here, Right Now, emphasizes the central importance of protecting and promoting human rights as a prerequisite to a successful response to HIV. This includes access to adequate and proven prevention options. In this context, IAVI will provide an update on progress toward the development of a safe and effective AIDS vaccine--a critical new prevention technology to help bring down the number of new HIV infections. Together with partners, IAVI will discuss scientific and political priorities to accelerate AIDS vaccine research following important progress achieved in 2009.
