Forty AIDS and global health organizations from around the world, including the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI), have endorsed a call for the United Nations High-Level Meeting on the Comprehensive Review on HIV/AIDS to make a firm commitment on research, development and delivery of new HIV-prevention options. The endorsing organizations proposed the following language be included in relevant documents from the meeting:

“We commit to intensify investment in the research, development and delivery of critically needed new prevention options, including microbicides, pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and an AIDS vaccine, while making maximum use of the effective prevention and treatment strategies already available. Engagement of all countries, especially those most burdened by the pandemic, will continue to be essential in research efforts to ensure that new technologies are both acceptable and accessible to those in greatest need.”
