IAVI’s Communications department seeks to:
- Inform all audiences about the necessity of developing an effective AIDS vaccine and the evidence that suggests such a vaccine is possible
- Build and sustain public support for AIDS vaccine development
- Ensure that the development and worldwide distribution of an affordable and effective AIDS vaccine remains a top priority of national and global health agendas
- Raise awareness of IAVI’s global activities and innovations, and convey the value of its contributions to AIDS vaccine research and development
- Server as a reliable source of information about AIDS vaccine research and development
To achieve these goals, communications officers at IAVI’s New York City headquarters and at each of the organization’s regional offices in Europe, India, East and Southern Africa prepare announcements, factsheets, brochures and other literature, maintain the iavi.org website and work with the media.
In addition, the Communications Department publishes IAVI Report, a bimonthly journal that covers the entire field of AIDS vaccine research and development, and VAX, a monthly newsletter about the field that is written for lay readers. The iavireport.org website contains a database of all AIDS vaccine trials, past and current.
