The introduction of new technologies includes the formal government decision to approve the product or service and the implementation of programs necessary for its distribution. This study reviews the experience of several health technologies introduced in India: hepatitis B vaccine, the Universal Immunisation Programme (UIP), no scalpel vasectomy (NSV), voluntary counselling and testing (VCT), and antiretroviral treatment (ART), to identify lessons that might inform the future adoption and implementation of AIDS vaccines.
