12/9/13, 8:15 - 9:30 a.m.
Conference Room 7, North Lawn Building, UN Headquarters, New York

IAVI, the Council on Health Research for Development (COHRED) and the Global Health Technologies Coalition (GHTC) invite you to an official side event held in conjunction with the sixth session of the Open Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals. To RSVP, please contact Nick Taylor at or 202.822.0033. Your organization must have ECOSOC status.

The health MDGs have been at the forefront of driving development since the start of the last decade. Health once again is acknowledged as a central priority in the Post-2015 Sustainable Development Framework. This continuing focus will mean that the existing achievements in combating HIV, malaria and other diseases, improving maternal health, and reducing child mortality can be further progressed.

This increased momentum in global health over the past fifteen years has also driven increased investment in health research and development (R&D), leading to the development and delivery of new vaccines, drugs, and diagnostics, as well as improved policies and procedures to ensure their effective and equitable use. Commitment to investing in global health R&D and necessary research systems, especially in low- and middle-income countries, is critical to end the burden of devastating diseases and achieve equitable health and development outcomes.

Join a provocative conversation between global health research experts and supporters on the need for international commitments acknowledging the critical role of research and innovation for health in the Post-2015 Development Framework.
